How to repair a Microsoft Office application?

MS Office, the globally used productivity suite developed by the Microsoft may show some unusual behavior when you try to access its applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). To fix this problem, you can restart the application. But, if the problem still persists, repairing the Office is the only solution and the correct steps to initiate the same have been provided here in this article:

(Please note that the steps to repair MS Office applications are applicable to Excel 2016 Word 2016 Outlook 2016 PowerPoint 2016 OneNote 2016. Windows 10

  1. Right-click the Start menu in the taskbar and choose Apps and Features
  2. Now, choose the Microsoft Office application you want to repair
  3. Choose Modify
    1. Please note that this step will repair the entire Office productivity suite even if you only want to repair a single application. However, if you have installed a particular Office app then choose that particular app from Apps and Features menu
  4. Select from Click-to-run or MSI-based
  5. If you choose Click-to-run then do the following:
    1. Choose “Online Repair” in “How would you like to repair your Office Programs” section
    2. Now, select Repair (Don’t choose Quick Repair as it will only detect and replace the corrupted files)
  6. If you choose MSI-based then do the following:
    1. Choose Repair in Change your Installation
    2. Click Continue
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the repair process.

Windows 8 or 8.1

  1. Right-click the Start menu and choose Control Panel or simply press “Windows + R” key together and type Control Panel in the box, hit Enter
  2. Choose Programs and then choose to Uninstall a Program
  3. Right-click the Office product you want to repair
  4. Choose Change from the drop-down menu
  5. Now perform step 5 to 7 mentioned in the Windows 10 section
